Counselling

Counselling focuses on the challenges affecting your life now—such as anxiety, low mood, grief, relationship difficulties or work stress. It is often shorter-term and more goal-focused than psychotherapy, helping you navigate immediate concerns while building skills and understanding that can support longer-term wellbeing.

How does it work?

We start by understanding what is happening in your life, what you would like to change, and what feels achievable within the time we have together. Our sessions remain focused on your goals while making space for deeper issues if they emerge. Sometimes this may suggest that longer-term psychotherapy could be helpful, and we can discuss this together.

What can we explore?

Life transitions - Navigating career changes, separation or divorce, loss and grief, disability, or other significant changes. Anxiety, low mood and distress - Developing practical ways to reduce distress and understand the thoughts, emotions and behaviours contributing to it. Challenging relationships - Working through difficulties with partners, family, friends or colleagues and finding healthier ways of relating. LGBTIQA+ life and identity - Exploring coming out, changes in how you understand your identity, relationships, belonging and connection within rainbow communities. Living with neurodivergence - Developing strategies for challenges associated with ADHD, autism or other forms of neurodivergence, including adjusting to a recent diagnosis, alongside other specialists where appropriate.

What might counselling feel like?

Here-and-now focused — We concentrate primarily on what is happening in your life and what you would like to change. Goal-oriented — We agree on priorities and regularly reflect on whether counselling is helping you move towards them. Supportive and practical — Sessions provide space to talk openly while also developing strategies, insights and strengths you can take into everyday life. A balance of support and challenge — Being heard can itself be powerful, but change can also mean looking differently at familiar thoughts, behaviours or ways of relating. Counselling can be emotional, relieving, challenging or illuminating. Above all, it is a collaborative space to better understand what you are experiencing and find a way forward that works for you.
